Hello to all.. excited to have got the new outfit home.. after 45 years riding bikes and spending a morning training with John Taylor in Uralla a couple of years back , have to say it was still a puckering experience riding it out of the showroom, and straight onto the freeway.. surrounded by b doubles and an outfit that has its own ideas on where it was going, until the right part of the brain kicked in…despite a couple of unexpected lane changes managed to get the 120k under the belt.. only the compliance plate had all but fallen off but a couple of self tappers will fix that.. Second day out starting to get the hang of it after another couple of hundred k running it in.. only the blinker stopped working after a few drops of rain.. Gotta figure out whether thats the flasher can or the globe..I guess that welcome to the world of Ural..lol.. and a long learning curve to understand the intricacies of riding the beastie.. ‘So the question I have for the group is the Adventure kit comes with a ball mount for a gps.. what gps’s are people using ( I’m thinking Garmin) and are the off road maps any good? in particular the Otway Ranges which is our back yard… cheers Klaus

You can’t go wrong with a Garmin Zumo!....the standard mapping is comprehensive and reliable with free updates. Try it before investing in other mapping which cannot be updated. Cheers Wheels.😎 Note...my Zumo left it’s mounting in Tassie a few years ago on the road to Cockle Creek. It got smacked by an oncoming 1200 GS then bounced onto the Ural following me!...it’s still in use!

G’day Klaus,
I run a Garmin Montana 610 with GPSOZ MAPS, the reason I use these are they are also good for bushwalking and fossicking and have the ability to run two types of batteries.
I am pretty new to this and certainly took a while to get use to it but I was fortunate I could practice often. Now I can’t stop riding the it.

Hi Klaus. I'm new too. Not getting mine till about October. Otways are also my backyard. As far as navigation goes, I use Exploroz Traveller on my phone and 7" tablet. Very detailed and can be updated with frequent upgrades. Very useful in our 4x4 and will use on the Ural as well. Ram mounts are compatible with the ball. Way better than Hema IMHO. Hope we catch up sometime.

Any device on a Ural must be totally waterproof, dust proof, mud proof and have anti-vibration abilities!....don’t have them and it won’t survive!...a Ural Australia Adventure ride is generally a good test for your Ural and any gear attached!....lots of bikes, and depending on the conditions lots and lots of dust, mud, corrugations and dirt!...it’s brilliant! Cheers Wheels. 😎

I run a Garmin zumo , that i swap from bike to bike, its a good sturdy unit with regular updates. i use the handlebar mount U bolt with the Ram ball. So far been sturdy enough, perhaps the ural will test that!
