Been trying to get a quote from locals to build a 6' wide bike trailer for the Ural, everybody must be busy 'cause even after reminder calls a month has passed with no result, I took the bike to one supplier for a measue up made no difference. On to Ebay and a supplier in Melbourne [Hoppers Crossing] lists a new 8 x 6 with rear ramp for $2990.00, and another that looks the same with same [vague] spec for $3440.00, called and eventually got a call back to be told that head office had not updated prices and a near bare bones 8 x 6 with ramp, no brakes [750kg GVM] would be $3600.00 ! Photos of the $2900.00 trailer showed hydraulic brakes. Just to be a PITA I asked for an emailed quote which did not arrive so my attempt at revenge time wasting failed. Have found a clean used 8 x 6 locally manufactured galvanised trailer with hydraulic brakes [1400 kg GVM] and spare wheel and 6 months reg for $2300.00, unfortunately 800 km away but I am up for a road trip. Depart Sunday.
PS Spoke to Stonegate Trailers as suggested by Wheels, young bloke was so slow the conversation would have made a good comedy skit if it were happening to someone else, last question was re freight, the kid wandered off "to ask the boss" and came back to advise that freight "would cost more than the trailer". Not sure if I have become a cranky old ba$t#rd or if I just attract boneheads.

Sidecar racing blokes often build enclosed trailers on old caravan chassis, most are ugly contraptions but good to throw the swag in during bad weather. Lots of sheet alloy on a caravan for bodywork.

This is just a 3 bike trailer with a flat floor without the 3 channels fitted. Cost under a grand including reg. Sure the price would be more today but cannot imagine paying double.

Popcorn Dave has a great tilt trailer. He delivered my Ural with it. May be worth dropping him a line Lee

Popcorn Dave has a great tilt trailer. He delivered my Ural with it. May be worth dropping him a line Lee I don’t need a trailer Danny. If a multi purpose trailer is required, a tilt is an option. If you just want a trailer for a URAL…..KISS. 😇

Unless one has serious intentions for long distance from home Ural rides is a trailer really necessary? (more so a purpose built trailer)…maybe!..I don’t know!…in our case! four Tassie rides, two Otway’s Rides, one SA (Mount Ive) ride, one Lightning Ridge ride a couple of Snowy’s rides (plus ride’s long forgotten and a few on the drawing board) a trailer is well justified, considering we live a long way from those locations (it’s a long assed boring Ural haul to get to where we wanted or want to be). Initially I built a purpose built trailer, and sold it to get another purpose built trailer to cart both our Urals, which in turn got sold when one of the Urals got sold. The long and short of it is that both purpose built trailers never got used for anything else other than carting Urals around. The Stonegate tilt trailer I now have gets used for everybloodything! and is better than good at carting our Ural long distance’s reliably, it’s already proved that! Cheers Wheels.😎

Must agree re specialty trailer vs box trailer, the latter is still easy to load with ramps and multi purpose, bike trailers are obviously useful for carting two or three solos. Perhaps important information for anybody buying a used trailer in NSW. The trailer must have a VIN to be registered and two vehicle test centres I have spoken to have told me to forget obtaining a VIN issued by NSW Roads and Maritime, may get done in a year but maybe not. Across the border in Victoria no problem, Vic Roads will issue one across the counter. I presume you would have to register in Vic to get a VIN from Vic Roads.
