25th.........Saturday I think !
Didn't know what we could find to top the Argyle Dam with its astounding beauty, enormous surface area and volume of water. It has massive potential but as yet, it is vastly under utilised. However, we did find something as good today, although in a different category altogether. We rode out of town late in the morning taking in a short walk at Kelly's Knob. A spectacular rock amphitheatre.
Further up the road we discovered the Sandlewood Factory. Just a load of "girlie" perfume stuff there, and a cafe with limited menu. Back on the bike and up the road again for a couple of k's, and there it was ........today's surprise.
THE HOOTCHERY
We ordered lunch and settled into a tasting of whiskeys, rum and liqueurs. WOW. I don't like rum. Or at least I didn't know I did until now. Eventually settled on a bottle of Cane Spirit Chocolate and Coffee to take with us. We also got their Web address, as they do deliver.
On the way back to Kununurra we detoured onto the Research Road which is surrounded by irrigation crops of Sandlewood, Sunflowers and other "green stuff". Probably Chia, a bit of a local secret and supposedly a fashionable superfood. The Sunflower crop looked about 3 metres high and denser than a room full of politicians. The air temperature dropped very noticeably while riding through.
A little further on we came upon this sign.......I have not seen one of these for about 40 years.
SPEED DERESTRICTION. remember when you could go as fast as you liked as long as you could convince the copper it was safe ! .....I had just had all that rum too.
So there you go. Must see places in the Kununurra area are the Argyle Dam and the Hootchery.
Forgot to mention......or at least trying to forget that we visited the Argyle diamond shop in Kununurra.......wifey says she really enjoyed the day.
Off to the Bungle Bungles tomorrow.
