Spoke to the tour leader recently and it sounds like it will be a great ride through fabulous country……..If you are coming, DO YOUR MAINTENANCE. 😇 My bike is in the workshop for service having just completed a 7000km trip to the OCR at Adells Grove. We did encounter one catastrophic failure on the Birdsville Track that was not a maintenance issue. ……The horn mounting bracket broke but the wiring strength was well proven as it held on, as evidenced by the oil filter being beaten to near death by the flailing horn. 😂 See you at HQ soon.

It does sound like a good weekend coming up.
Lee, I here you met one of my oldest and dearest friends at Adel's. Dean, and his wife Judy traveling their last few weeks of their two year adventure on a BMW R1250 and DMC sidecar. I'll be going to visit them in QLD after the Uralla trip.
My maintenance will be done, and I've seen what you mean by that horn bracket. I'm almost sure I'll be putting on a set of twin horns, and will have to fabricate a new mount for them. Something a little sturdier than what's there.
The biggest concern, do I change the rear tyre for the spare before I leave, or when I get to QLD? Because it won't last until I get home, well it might, but there won't be much left on it. I've averaged 1,500 km for the last two months and it's 2/3rds done.
See ya'll at Uralla.

Had a long chat with Dean and Judy….lovely people. Mike, if you are going to use your worn tyre as the spare then change it while it is still quite useable. A totally worn out tyre is useless as a spare if it happens that you have to rely on it. I like my spare to have at minimum a 1000km left in it.

Judy since 1988.
I also agree that the spare will have to go on sooner rather than later, so was perhaps planning on changing it when the bike hits 4,000 km. Should still have 4-5 mm of tread left. Or, I'll just get a new one on before leaving and have an almost new full set.

Just back from HQ. Another great URAL Oz ride where we met up with some old friends and hopefully made some new. Three days of super riding in the dry…..except for the obligatory 20+ creek crossings which were all easy compared to some we have done in the past.
A little taste…( thanks Dea ).
