Some of the road looked really dry but there had been quite a bit of rain. There were a few very soft surprises along the way. Attachments:

We reached Yass and fuelled again. Same result with Chris at 10 and self at 15 km per litre. We had endured a few heavy showers and lots of drizzle but it was dry at Yass when we found our coffee shop. While having coffee, the heavens opened up and it poured rain for a good hour. We decided it was a good time to wander around the shops browsing longest in the shops with heaters. Eventually the rain cleared and we again we took to the back roads to find our way to Crookwell. We went via Jerrawa, Dalton and Biala. By the time we arrived at Crookwell which is 1000 metres above sea level, we were feeling the cold and Chris suggested a night in accommodation might be good, rather than camping. We chatted up Sharon in the information centre who rang a motel for us. Yes we could get a room, but for lots of dollars. I pleaded over the phone for seniors discount but was rejected. We went to the motel to book in and I could not resist trying again. I put cash on the desk and said "surely you could do it for that and not tell the tax man". Worked a treat.....20% discount.

The discount made Chris happy, nearly as much as the heater. We had a very comfortable night and the next morning the sun was shining and all was well with the world. Well at least till I got another of those phone calls that inform you of a pending funeral........, So, we had studied the map and taken advise from Sharon and headed off again on the road least travelled to Tuena via Lagan and Peelwood. There is an old copper mine at Peelwood that Sharon had said they were trying to reinstate. The main problem being transport, since there is only the gravel road. A fantastic gravel road it is too. Both for riding and for the scenery.......just fantastic. We stopped at Tuena for coffee and two old blokes immediately were attracted to the bikes. One of them introduced himself as a past "chairman". He is 87, has a mouth full of capped teeth and could talk a tyre right off a rim. He told us he had a Tilbrook chair many years ago and his most recent bikes were a BMW K100 Rs and then a suzuki gs1200. He had been a real biker and in his mind , he still was. It was good to see his face light up and the excitement in his voice as he recalled the past. Attachments:

We only had time to do one cave. It was a 1.5 km walk with a little over half a km through the cave. Attachments:

On towards the rally at Oconnell. We travelled back down the road a few k's and turned off to Buraga, Mt. David and Lagoon. Some of the best gravel roads you could ask for, twisting and turning through pine plantations and hilly grazing country.....what a great day. We arrived safely and smiling at oconnell, set up camp and hit the red. With a great campfire raging and plenty of fire chat from my Monarch club mates, we settled in to a very pleasant evening. Pity Chris can't remember any of it....... Saturday we took a run into Bathurst and the compulsory couple of laps of the race circuit. Attachments:

Not a good turn out from the NSW sidecar boys and girls in my opinion. I counted less than 20. That included 5 URALS and without the Monarchs from Victoria, they would have had less than 15. Really hope they can build on that for the future. The last Vic. Rally had 42 outfits attend. I headed back home Sunday morning with a few Monarchs until I went off towards Canberra and they continued to Cooma. I could not pass up the opportunity to do the road between Canberra and Tumut via Brindabella. Had lunch at Brindabella and took this snap. Attachments:
