My bike's power has been down this year, and oil use has increased, especially during the 4,000km Victorian ride in March this year.
Being an optimist, (or a bit slack when it comes to maintenance), I decided the bike was fit for the Russian outback ride in June. The ride, including the ride to and from Kentucky, was 8,000km. Performance was still a bit down, but the bike still kept up the front bunch of riders.
Oil use did increase, and on the last 1,500km became somewhat excessive. Once home I removed the heads, barrells and pistons. The left side looked pretty good. A hone of the barrell, new rings would have sufficed. The valves looked fine, the valve guides a bit loose.
The right side was somewhat different:
After costing the options I have ordered new barrells, pistons and complete heads from Jon. While the bike is in pieces I will replace the swing arm bearings, and instal a new final drive universal.
