A little project has been happening... Basically a copy of an airbox by Leftka on Soviet Steeds, but with a couple of twists. More to come.

I have had a similar idea Ross. Will be interested in what filter you use. A little project has been happening... Basically a copy of an airbox by Leftka on Soviet Steeds, but with a couple of twists. More to come.

I have had a similar idea Ross. Will be interested in what filter you use. A little project has been happening... Basically a copy of an airbox by Leftka on Soviet Steeds, but with a couple of twists. More to come. The filter is easy - I have a 1976 850 Moto Guzzi K&N filter (mg-0200). The pics make it look kind of tapered to me, but it's not. This is as per other builds done on Soviet Steeds, I can't claim originality. Basically all I've done different to them is the screw-on cap to access the filter - other builds have used plain end caps with clips and gaskets to seal and hold it in place. The big thing is that on other builds they have used CEET tubing in place of the branch tubes because the starter motor prevents use of standard branch tubes. BUT, if you have fitted the new style smaller starter you CAN use stock branch tubes. This was one thing I really wanted with it. PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS - MG-0200 Filter Material Cotton Gauze Height 7.75 in (197 mm) Inner Wire No Inside Diameter 2.188 in (56 mm) Outside Diameter 3 in (76 mm) Air Filter Shape Round Flanges None Washable Yes Weight 0.6 lb (0.3 kg) Filter Re-Oiling Amount 0.73 oz (22 ml)

Ross, that looks very neat. Or it will when you paint it......😜👍 My only concern is your post filter volume. Assuming your air flow is outside to inside of the filter, your volume appears a little small. Low down torque is greatly affected by small airbox volume. The Ural could do with more......not less.

That could be an issue but we'll see. Air will enter holes in the top of the housing you see though they'll be well spread out to make the most of the filter surface, which is much greater than stock. I'm currently contemplating how far to go with opening up the housing. I have made 6 x 25mm holes and will probably make at least two more. I'm interested in what anyone thinks about this?

I would think air flow for an 850 Guzzi will be adequate for a Ural. What size pipe are you using? Another thought I have had is a tee piece with a Donaldson pre filter for really dusty conditions.

The filter will flow enough but even air has a lag effect to get it moving, especially when it has to travel through a resistance such as a filter. The more air in the box after the filter, the quicker it gets moving from low rpm’s. Once revs pick up and the air has momentum, all is well.

Yep, one using a tee piece and pre filter has been done before, and it probably wouldn't be hard to add a snorkle for when splashing around. Here's one they prepared earlier: www.sovietsteeds.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=26957

Test ride complete! Runs just fine. One more thing to do then give it a coat of paint.
