Ural Australia Ride report!...Thanks to Greg Jansen (Rocky Creek Designs) for his many trips and hard work planning one hell of a Ural adventure ride. Clare, Matt, Jon Taylor, Tom Foster (Adventure Rider Magazine) all assisted Greg and a huge thanks to them.
Day 1...
18 Urals started out from Ural headquarters Uralla at 9am destination Wingham via Walcha and Nowendoc on mostly dirt roads distance 229 kms in threatening looking weather.
First stop was for a quick photo shoot at the beautiful and picturesque Gostwyck Chapel on Gostwyck road then a right hand turn just up the road onto gravel with everyone kitted up in their wet weather gear as light rain was starting. Last nights rain had settled the dust beautifully and was just enough to create a little mud so the ride to Walcha for smoko was brisk and a great start to the day. After an hour at Walcha it was straight onto dirt again for one of the most picturesque rides I have done on a Ural and a cracking but comfortable pace was set by Greg to Nowendoc for lunch. An hour later saw us back on the dirt in light rain heading for Wingham in incredibly scenic country. We had a couple of stops to chat and admire the views. At the last stop Greg said ânext stop Winghamâ which was a 60km run mostly on dirt with the final bit lots of twistyâs on tar. Fortunately I was able to get up in the first five and the pace Greg set was a cracking one and I had probably one of the best 60km rides Iâve ever had on a Ural. Donât get me wrong! the ride is not a speed event, far from it, and everyone travels at their own pace but as in every ride if you want to get into it get up with the front few!
By 4am everyone was settling into our accommodations in Wingham (a small pleasant town) then it was happy hour and dinner at the Golf Club with lots of smiling Uralists....what a brilliant day!
Cheers Wheelsđ
