Has anyone noticed a difference in riding these lovely machines with or without windshields?
I fitted the passenger screen to the chair last week and rode it to work and back. Felt like it was creating drag and making the rig work a little harder. Is it all in my head?
Cheers, Hubie.

There is a little wind drag. I found the chair screen (without passenger) cost 1/2 to 1 kilometre/litre and a small / medium screen for the rider was good for a gain of 1 km/litre.

Mileage, dollar & cents for a windscreen efficiency!..what about the poor buggers behind them or beside them!...big screen...mid screen...little screen. I’ve tried and have most all of them and change them as frequently as my jocks (which give consistency) but screens!..well!..my jocks I trust for performance and comfort, not screens. Gotta admit though in my military time in the tropics jocks were a pain in the ass a bit like Ural windscreens!...but saying that it’s everyone to his own with Ural windscreens! advice!..buy em and try em and if you don’t like em you’ve blown your bucks.😎

My partner likes the chair screen and I don't notice much difference really, having said that I only leave the screen up when she is in the chair, otherwise it is laid flat with the cover over it.

That said, my bike was rather thirsty when I first got it. After cleaning out the air filter, dropping the needles in the carbs, advancing the timing as per Lee's advice, it's now down from 12l/100k to 7.7l/100k. Much better!

8 litres per 100 for normal conditions is good for carby model. 👍👍

Bloody amazing!...of all the screens I’ve tried on Urals this “ugly duckling” that I knocked up works as good if not better than all the other expensive monsters I’ve tried. It keeps the wind off your chest brilliantly (which is all I’ve ever wanted) but there is a little more helmet noise than riding with no screen!...Without a sidecar screen the passenger copped a fair bit of flack from that tiny “ugly duckling” so on went the sidecar screen...problem solved! but better still for whatever reason the inclusion of the sidecar screen enhanced the “ugly duckling”. The pics don’t do the screen justice!..sort of distorts it! Seriously sending the “ugly duckling” over to Eagle Screens and have them make up one exactly the same in Perspex. Then again the one there now works fine! Cheers Wheels😎

I didn't like the looks of the Ural fairing; two mounts are not enough. I went for the Puig Ranger, which is similar but has four really solid mounts. It sits solid as a rock and does a great job.
