Hi All, I was going to write something about this tour some time back to send you the trips for each day. Until now I have not had a GPS, just used Google maps which really doesn’t ‘cut it’ for this tour. So took the plunge to get a Garmin Zumo XT2 unit so that I could do the job properly. Well, I think Natasha is much better behaved that this GPS unit, it is a ..... Yep, you can fill in the space. Finally after multiple computers, consulting various persons, being told I have to contact the US of A, I found that there is support in Australia – all online though – nothing face to face! Bovey was actually helpful and apart from linking my headset to the GPS, I am off and running. Main problem – with all my mucking around, the battery level had dropped and you cannot charge the unit from a USB cable – the unit draws too much power. So The Zumo decided that it would do a zero – zero interaction with me! So now have a spare car battery on the floor here and I use that to charge the ..... thing. At least now it works. The other thing is that the base maps are on the GPS device and I cannot transfer them across to my computer – they are locked. I could buy some map layers but – nah, don’t want to do that. Okay, enough of the whingeing. On with some information for you guys - looks like there is going to be quite a turn-out. I have validated two of the 6 trips – thanks Lee for the first one. Hope in the next week to send you all GPX files for each days trip. For now, attached are Google maps of each day to give you an idea of where we will be going. Okay, leave it there for now and will be in touch next week with some more info. Gary

The GPS is easier to learn than Vietnamese Gary 🤣 Your 240v power adapter is the issue with charging. Computer does not supply enough current. Connect the XT2 to your computer. The maps installed on the GPS will then be available on BaseCamp while GPS is connected. Ignore the warning " Unsupported device". Latest Map is 25.10 Charging ¥

Actually, I had plugged it in into 240 volt – tried several adapters and no go. The Garmin support advised me to go for a drive to charge it up hence my battery solution that works. The ‘unsupported device’ message, yes, I get that now and maps are up to date. You can apparently buy the City Navigator maps for Oz & NZ for A$189 from Garmin but for now just connecting to the Zumo to prepare the GPX files. Off for another ride today and another GPX file.

Doesn't it charge when you plug it into the USB on your PC?? Not enough current from PC ports. I have the older Zumo XT. Mine charges from PC USB and both 1 and 2amp phone charger/240v wall mounts. Very surprised the XT2 does not.
