Fellow Uralists,
Next year VARSTy (Victorian Autumn Russian Sidecar Tour (yippee))is headed for South East Victoria, the triangle east of Phillip Island between Tasman Sea and the Great Dividing Range.
We will stay 3 nights in each of four towns, and will decide each days rides and/or activities as we go. Participants are able to join in with the main group or do their own thing. The ride is an opportunity for Ural riders to have fun with other Uralists, both by sharing riding adventures and general socialising.
All Ural riders are invited, and those who want to join in only have to arrange their accommodation directly. We have preliminary arrangements with caravan parks, details of which are included below. If people want to ride with us and stay in 4 or 5 star luxury then that's quite OK. The parks have a variety of accommodation for those who wish to camp, stay in cabins or travel with caravan and/or motorhomes.
Participants are free to join in wherever and whenever they want, spend just one or all twelve nights.
VARSTy starts Tuesday 10 March, immediately after the long weekend.
The Cold Flame Rally, on the Barry Way, is held over the long weekend. A number of us will camp there Saturday and Sunday nights, and ride to Orbost Monday. The Barry Way runs due south from Jindabyne to the Vic/NSW border, where it becomes the Snowy River Road to Buchan and Bruthern. The scenery along the Snowy River is fabulous, and the rally site is wonderful. I recommend the rally as a great way to ease into VARSTy.
Riders will need to be self sufficient, and will need to assume responsibility for their bike's repair and maintenance. Between us we have a high level of expertise, but each rider should carry basic spares. Jon Taylor is now selling Adventure Spare kits, and I'm happy to email to anyone a list of the spares I always carry. Donuts, cables, fuses, carb inlet flanges and the like can be the difference between an enjoyable trip and a bike stuck in the middle of nowhere...........
I've been asked if non-Ural owners can join us. I believe its all about having fun and that anyone is welcome to join us. But they have to put up with us, a bunch of happy, fun loving Ural riders.
The towns are generally small, and Jan Cosgriff has worked hard to find suitable accommodation for us; caravan parks that have cabins, camping sites, are realistically priced, in areas we want to spend three nights, and are reasonable distances apart. The towns chosen are Orbost, Stratford, Yarram and Wonthaggi.
There's many great roads in the area, and lots to see.
