Hi Ural Owners!
Dates have been set for our 2017 Ural Adventure Ride. It will be held the weekend of 6th, 7th & 8th October, 2017.
Our annual Adventure Ride this year will combine some interesting and scenic roads which traverse parts of the Eastern escarpment of the Northern Tablelands. There will be some gravel surfaces as we traverse a once significant coastal access from Glen Innes to Grafton. The region is remote and follows closely three significant rivers as it winds through the mountains.
The ride is not as technically difficult as last year’s and the scenery is amazing, with plenty of time for regular stops, chat and comradery. The second day will take in a sealed road taking us via Dorrigo and through to Ural Australia headquarters in Uralla.
For those who can make it Friday, we’ll meet at 12 midday on Friday 6th October at “Standing Stones” café in Glen Innes and have lunch together. There’ll be an address from a committee person re the “Standing Stones”, their significance and the annual event held there.
A mid-afternoon tour on our Ural sidecars will take us to the three major Wind Farm developments being constructed west of Glen Innes. These are the largest wind turbines and towers so far constructed in Australia.
Overnight in Glen Innes - as there are many contract workers in town working on the wind farm, accommodation is limited. We suggest trying the following:
Great Central Hotel, 313 Grey St, Glen Innes Phone (02) 6732 1966 - greatcentralhotel.com.au
Biker friendly hotel (shared bathroom facilities), currently has vacancies, secure overnight parking, restaurant and café.
For those camping, try Fossicker Caravan Park Phone (02) 6732 4246 - fossickercaravanpark.com.au
Saturday 7th October
Following breakfast, we’ll gather at 8.30am aiming to depart by 9am. Everyone takes their own packed lunch. 50kms sealed road to a riverside stop on the Mann River.
Further 60kms of gravel road to our lunch break on the Boyd River.
Another 25kms of gravel road and then another 40kms of sealed road to Grafton.
Overnight stay in Grafton at suggested venue with a variety of cabin, motel rooms and camping available:
Glenwood Tourist Park and Motel, 71 Heber Street, South Grafton Phone 02 6642 3466 - glenwoodtouristpark.com.au
Sunday 8th October
Again following breakfast, we’ll gather at 8.30am departing at 9am.
Riding through Nymboida, Bostobrick and to Dorrigo for lunch.
The afternoon ride takes us via Ebor and Armidale enjoying the Waterfall Way and some of the waterfalls along the way.
Approximately 180kms in total with several stops to chat, enjoy the scenery and the culinary delights available.
