Through Petrie, breakfast in Dayboro at the Silverwood Cafe and back via Samsonvale and the Clearview Mountain Road.
Not another Ural in sight but plenty of nods and waves from other motorcycling enthusiasts and even a nod from a Harley rider - or maybe his head bobbing around while his bike shook itself to bits? Either way neither of us could hear anything as he went past and it wasn't me making the noise...
As for mine the balance still wasn't quite right, there was a bit of a buzz in the bars and the acceleration was a bit rough - not enough to stop - just enough to consider another run of the software when I got home.
As Lee knows the art of balancing with the software is tricky. According to a 'source' he spent the best part of an hour tweaking his TB's without much benefit.
I am using a third party application, so I expect having to redo it form time to time.
This time I was a few KPa down on the right side as the RPM rose from 900 to 1900.The trick is remembering that the ECU's talk to each other, unfortunately the chatting is a bit slow so you have to be patient.
I had the idle and at idle balance right, I just needed to adjust the throttle cables.
There is a 12mm lock nut and the ferrule holder is 8mm, neither side is particularly accessible and I have a welt rising on my index finger where I accidentally touched the head.
I started on the right because that was down, paint marked the adjusting nut and gave it a full turn which was way too much, in the end it just needed a 1/4 of a turn to bring the difference back to 1 KPa.
Over to the left, mark and turn 1/8 and it was bang on. I let it idle for a while so the ECU's could catch up with each other, like old wives they are, shut down. Restarted and let it settle.
Ran the throttle slowly up to 1900 RPM and everything was working as advertised. RPM is a bit low at 950 but not enough to worry about.
Test ride bliss and big smiles all around.
Test ride bliss and big smiles all around.
There is a huge difference between an engine that is slightly off whack and one that has the throttle bodies balanced.
Changing the plug leads has made an enormous difference.
The idle has settled down and doesn't fluctuate, the TB vacuum on the left is steady and doesn't fluctuate, increasing RPM up to 1900 is now a smooth and predictable thing.
I probably didn't need to change the coils - but now I have a spare set...
Happy again!!
