Went for a nice little ride yesterday. My friend Kimbo from Quirindi (2 litre Kawasaki and chair) rang to say he and his wife were meeting Wayne Foster from Werris Creek ("purple "wing and chair- some of you would have met him on the Canberra run a few years back) to ride up to Armidale to check out the historic Saumarez homestead. Co-pilot said "what a great idea", so off we went, up the New England Highway, turning off at the Armidale airport to spend a few hours at the homestead- lunch available for a reasonable price! The decision was made to travel home via Kentucky, but unfortunately the General Store was closed, so next stop was the Walcha Road hotel for refreshments. A fairly strong headwind on the way home made the Ural a little slow, but we soon tucked in behind the big Kwakka, and enjoyed an almost free ride. We were able to sit on 95-100kmh most of the way, and ended up having a great day. The road from Kentucky to Bendemeer is a most enjoyable bit of road. Also very scenic in Autumn- it's part of my annual "Autumn Ride". Impromptu rides like this are a lot of fun- should happen more often!

Last Saturday, 8th Feb, 2 outfits and a Harley Sportster went for a short ride from Tamworth to Quirindi (morning tea) then through some good back roads to Nundle and up to Sheba Dams (steep climb, with some very tight bends). The photo shows the rigs resting beside the water. Sheba Dams were built by hand by Chinese gold miners back in the late 1800's to supply water for the mining operations, and are still a great spot to be on a hot day. Lunch on the way back was at the Mount Misery Mine café in Nundle- very much in the style of the era. Oops- photo won't upload- will try again later!
