Lightning Ridge! what a great place but the dirt roads are tough on Ural tyres. Had a just about new pusher on and four days of riding Lightning Ridge and surrounds has that pusher on it’s last legs. Zero tread in the centre with very little on the sides....surprised big time and a first for me for such rapid tyre wear!....worth it though but going to have to put on the spare to get through the next week. Cheers Wheels😎 (Bobsie’s cool!!) A pic of what 4 days riding of LR can do to a pusher!...The tread on the spare is what the pusher looked like prior to those 4 days!....unbloodyreal😎

Following on from the last post!..I replaced the pusher tyre and in the process removed the F/D then cleaned and regreased all the splines and the universal. During all this a hunch told me to check the nut tension on the universal cotter pin! Yep! it was not tight (In fact quite loose) glad I checked because things could get untidy real quick if that cotter pin moved out. The cotter pin plays a critical role in the correct performance of the F/D and the drive shaft. I have personally seen a broken F/D shaft snapped in half because of something going wrong with a cotter pin. Cheers Wheels😎

Yesterday started with watching 800 homing Pidgeon’s released from a truck here in the park to fly back to Newcastle, a 6 hour flight. Then a 65k ride out to a beautiful artesian pool, but in a terrible location, so back to L/R for a steak sanger. Yum. Today. Awesome. 😉😍😱 We we’re asked to use the Retro for a film shoot. It’s a long time since Mad Max was made and the guys were doing some costume shoots. The pics speak for themselves. Leaving here tomorrow. Cheers, Bobsie.😉

G'day wheels, that's some pretty serious wear. I've ridden dirt/gravel/dust/mud and run duro308s, any reason that's peculiar to LR?

G'day wheels, that's some pretty serious wear. I've ridden dirt/gravel/dust/mud and run duro308s, any reason that's peculiar to LR? Extraordinary wear mate and a first for me considering a lot of my Ural rides are on dirt. Maybe I was running to much pusher tyre pressure for the conditions (38psi) and remember I have 18inch wheels. The LR dirt roads are gnarly, rough, corrugated and strewn with large sharp looking boulders and lots of monstrous washouts. I have done the Gibb River Road in the Kimberly’s a few times and thought it was gnarly! but not a patch on LR dirt roads. Most dirt roads I have been on the Retro I endeavour to maintain 80km/hr (to smooth things out) but no way on LR dirt roads mostly 10- 20 km/hr (if your lucky)😎
