Gday folks, I have been a lurker on here and other ural sites for a while, trying to make the decision to jump. I have had my eye on urals for a while, long time but im getting closer!! Im in central Victoria and have ridden motorcycles for a long time, and have owned many different styles and done lots of kilometres Sidecar experience very limited So I am having a look at a 2014 Ranger EFI on the weekend.
Is the first gen EFI, okay in use. i understand urals are mechanical devices with very individual histories.
in Youtube land i have seen people upgrade to the second generation, is that possible or necessary?

Hi ploz and welcome, We have a 2018 Ranger which still has the Ist gen EFI. !8,000 k no problems. Does miss sometime if have been on low throttle for a while and you open up hard but not often and you get used to it. I hear the 2nd gen is much better {2019 on} as they have a throttle position sensor. Have not ridden one so cannot say for sure, but there will be far more knowing people here who will comment. Like the shoe add says. Just do it. Heaps of fun and great ural community. Stay well

Welcome. If you can afford it buy a new one.
We probably need to find someone who has done many kilometers on a Gen I bike and then moved to a Gen II to find out if the upgrade is worth it. Personally I doubt it unless there is no other choice (failed Throttle Body or similar).
Good luck and enjoy

Gen II definitely a better unit than Gen I. Only your budget can decide the value. 😜

I have a 2014 T, bought run down (owner neglect) at 6000km now on 9000km and very happy with it, had to fix a few things but that’s all part of the experience. You probably want to be mechanically minded if you buy a second hand one out of warranty. It gets more use than any of my other bikes!

G’day Ploz58,
Did you end up getting a Ural. I’m pretty new to the Ural world and its a great addiction, so much so that my solos are sitting on the charger. Had it since December and nearly 5000km on it now. Just something about these machines that keeps me smiling.
