Well done Keith, you have learnt a lot in a short time because and in your own words “practice makes perfect.”
I do however disagree with weight in the chair when learning for two reasons:
… More weight means more steering input is required.
….Initially finding your limits with weight aboard means you have to re-learn when unloaded. Far safer to know the unloaded limit first…….my opinion only.
I am sure I have written this before but I think some tips for the newbies are good. These are general tips for learning on sealed roads.
Sit up straight and steer.
Bend your elbow on the side you are turning to….keep your pushing arm straight.
Use the knee pads on the tank…..you need leverage for steering input unless you are a gorilla.
Turning left….finish your braking BEFORE you start turning. Braking into the corner is the very most dangerous thing you can do when turning towards the chair.
Turning right…..braking into the corner a little, helps you turn.
Select the correct gear for the corner before you start turning.
I know of a number of new outfit riders that have run off the road when all they had to do was steer. Learn and understand how much effort you MUST use sometimes to control a Ural.
As Keith said…..practice makes perfect and when you are as comfortable as Keith appears to be, there are some more advanced tips to learn……and then there is riding dirt.
Ride safe and enjoy.
