Decided to go for a nice sojourn around our area, first proper ride since all the rain. Went down a track that I have deen so many times before that has 5 little creek crossings. we my first crossing was a doozy, had a bit of a drop off but thought to myself that will be ok, base is usually hard, not today, rear end went through the gravel and then sank in yellow clay. Time to test the winch. All worked extremely well considering my boot was full of water and angles were a little steep. Job done all good, got through the other four crossings without issue then a big tree blocks the track. turn around, change my line on the problem creek and bugger if it didn’t happen again. so glad I had the winch today.

Hope you have a breather tube on that final drive Jake? A hot final drive with the factory breather sucks water in like a thirsty camel when submersed. Your rig was certainly in there! Cheers Wheels. 😎

Yes have a breather, but will drop the oil in the drive and take the wheel off to make sure bearings are good. Caught out with complacency

We know, you just wanted to play with your winch…….😂😂 Don’t forget……every time you have the wheel off….lube the splines.

Even with a breather tube I would be checking the FD oil (looking for that grey tinge or even froth). Guess it all depends on how confident you are that shaft oil seal is ok. At least with the new models the added another seal to the Output spline shaft so little chance of water coming in there.

Changed out rear drive oil, this was fine with no ingress. Bearings and splines on wheel were also ok, good excuse to clean all these. So for those with this model it is good to note that seals work well. I am pretty fussy with my servicing and also pleased on the quality.
It was also good to try the winch on a single line pull, opportunity to see how this would go although normally I would twin line.
My light weight carabiners were also up to the task. Uf I had to have used my original method of hand winching I am not sure if that would have worked on my own. Point to note.
