For what it’s worth!….on the first oil change I changed to Penrite HPR 30 20W-60 in the engine and Penrite Gear Oil 80W-90 in the Gearbox and final drive. Same here and have done since day 1, with the exception of the GB oil, I just use engine oil. Tried gear oil in the box a couple of times and my GB never sent me a thankyou card as some suggest. My thankyou card was a noticeably slicker gear change. 😎

Sorry to jump in here guys. Our bike gearbox is harder to change as it gets hot. Well not really harder. I just crunch more changes. (80/90 mineral). In fact the motor gets more rattles and crankier as it gets hotter as well. Might have to move to colder climes. Oops. Have we started an oil discussion. Oh nooo.

...Andy, can you notice a difference in the gear changes from cold to hot ? Not really. Up and down shifting is normally a nice soft clunk with the exception of 3rd to 2nd. The fix is allowing the engine to spool down a bit once the clutch is engaged and a solid stomp on the lever. Best bang for buck I got was spending an afternoon making sure the clutch cable and gear shift stops were correctly set. ...In fact the motor gets more rattles and crankier as it gets hotter as well Mine is noticeably different when going from hot weather into cold such as running up the hill into dense cold air. Sounds and runs better in the cold.

Engines love the cold dense air. Every URAL I have ridden has had a nicer gear shift when cold and gear oil goes a long way to making it nicer when hot. Oh, and there is a rule that states “never remove your helmet while the engine is still running after a long hot run”. Although, for Wheels and myself, that is not so important. 😂
