So they are finally here and selling - changjiang-australia.com/10 grand cheaper than the Ural in a time where every dollar counts. Feel free to counter that with the 'mate of mine' comments and how bad Chinese stuff is I am old enough to remember when any motor vehicle made in Japan was thought to be crap. Perhaps they were back then. Look at the Japaese auto industry now. How quickly will the PRC shake the same sentiments. Watch this space.

...I am old enough to remember when any motor vehicle made in Japan was thought to be crap. Perhaps they were back then. Look at the Japaese auto industry now. How quickly will the PRC shake the same sentiments. Watch this space. I have a Luzhong 404A Compact tractor predominantly to slash the back acreage during summer and run a chipper. I was told it was a horrible buy, would fall apart, couldn't get spares for it - the list went on. About to do the 100 hour service which doesn't seem like much, but those hours have been spent at under 10km/h in pretty hot conditions pulling a load or running the PTO Chipper which is also Chinese. Sure - things fell off, mainly knobs on levers. Found most not all... lol. The paint and powder work is horrible. Bubbling rust in places. I have spent a lot on fish oil. Spares are not a problem, there are several online - stocked in Aus stores that ship quickly (compare that to trying to get Euro car parts in the 80's lol) The only real issue is there is no dealership/mechanic close by - bit like Ural and their top notch service agents That little tractor continues to amaze me and a few of my neighbors. I didn't spend an extra 20K on a brand name which means I can spend it on things that matter and still keep a 1/4 aside for unforeseen circumstances. Haitch - thinking something is crap because all the boys down the pub said it was belongs to our generation - we are a trusting lot. I think the PRC have already shaken the newer generations who tend to research their choices and I expect to see a lot more Chaing's on the road. When I strip the engine out of my Ural for the third time in 40,000 kilometers chasing an elusive fault, I will seriously be considering my choices.
End of the day Ural has had a reasonably unencumbered niche market since 2008 in Australia providing a unique factory built experience - they now have competition and what happens next will be really interesting.
