Can you believe we have been on the road for 1 WHOLE YEAR! Where did that time go?
It’s been a year since we sold up our gorgeous house, motorbikes, cars and beloved Ural sidecar and hit the road full time. (Let’s not talk about that Ural, only yesterday Glen was measuring the Ram tray again)
We have learnt that we can live together in the van full time without killing each other, but we had done a 3 month trip in the past with no problems. It has also been firmly reiterated that I’m not a fan of warm weather, get quite cranky in hot weather and hate mosquitos. Who knows how I will go when we reach the northern half of Australia!
Here’s some statistics that I know you are all dying to know:
Travel
Kilometres done by the van - 11,978kms
Kilometres done by the Rams - 27,647kms
Fuel cost - $11,247
Accommodation
Free camping - 140 days (free!)
Paid campsites/bush camping - 140 days ($2150)
Caravan parks - 81 days ($2339)
Motel - 4 nights ($749)
Total spent on accommodation - $5238
Bottled gas - 8 cylinders (8.5 litres each)
New birds spotted - 28
Adventure Passport stamps collected - 26
Our plan to travel the South Australian coast, across the Nullarbor and into the goldfields of Western Australia haven’t come entirely to fruition yet due to some niggly van issues, but we will get there. There is still so much more to see…
So if you are dreaming of getting out here and hitting the road, don’t just think about it. Make a plan. Do it.
And for those who just can’t travel, for whatever reason, sit back and enjoy our crazy adventures from your comfy couch, in your air conditioned room. Not jealous at all.
