So what do you reckon about this business of Motul being the 'official oil' of Ural? I'm not criticizing Motul as an oil, I do wonder how much dollars is changing hands though.
What's next - Ural brand oil that new owners think they need to have?

Is this like "Harley Oil". I heard that the reason they promote the use of their own oil is so that its made or is the oil that gives the service that THEY, THE BIKE MAKERS want. This does not mean it's the only best oil, just an oil that THEY can control. Money makes odd bed fellows is another way of looking at it.

I thought it was kind of strange that they went from 20W-50 unbranded mineral to a branded synthetic oil. My recent service at 110 Motorcycles Caboolture, had Merv saying they had to use Motul and warning me it was costly ($62 on the bill, the remaining 2 liters in the boot but no idea what they used in the gearbox, although I got stung another $50 for 'Gear Oils' which is a bit rich)
What does it mean for me? Not much really, I have absolutely no intention of using Motul or having my bike serviced at an authorized dealer. The bike is out of warranty and considering it was run in on mineral, I see no reason not to flush the engine at next change and go straight back to it.
I love a good oil thread... Looking forward to the arguments.

110 MC : $50 for 110ml of gear oil for the final drive ( or 1lt if they used it in the gearbox ) 😝 How to piss off your new Ural customers 👎 Just to help keep a oil thread going 😂 I use Penrite HPR30 20x60.

Come on guys.......every car company and nearly every bike company has an affiliation with an oil company or has their own “branded” oil.

Anyway for those of you with a new Ural who take it to an Authorised Dealer be prepared for: Engine Oil @ around $62 Motul Twin Syn 20W-50 - If you are lucky they will throw the remaining 2 liters in the boot. Gear Oil @ around $50 Motul Gear 300 75W-90 - yes folks that is $50 for the liter, 900ml for the box and 90ml for the final drive

I've always been happy with Valvolene. Every bike I've had in the last 35 years has used nothing else, but the XLD 20w50 has been getting harder to find down here. 80w90 in the gearbox and FD.
