I have (at long last) taken delivery of my new CT. I thought Ural is purchasing there rims from a new Co. after cracking probs with some earlier ones. Mine are date stamped Sept/2016, and the spare 2015. Is this the time of the cracking problems?

Congrats on the new 2019 cT -
The advice I got from Ural HQ was: I guess they have to get rid of old stock, but as Clare said above, if the torque is correct you shouldn't have an issue. Having never done spoke work before, I got someone, who true's and tunes spoked wheels everyday, to check all 4 of mine to make sure I had a starting point and I asked a lot of questions about how to maintain them.

Thanks Andy, it's a bit crook though when their web site states in "whats new for 2019" New, Stronger rims from a new supplier. I'll have a chat to Clare about it, friend of mine has new Sahara which has the new rims (10/2018)

CT has 18 inch wheels. I think they were not in the recall...... I am in Uralla and seeing Clare today so I will enquire.

Confirmed.... 18 inch rims were not included in the recall.
Check your spoke tensions. Over tightening is the main cause of cracked alloy rims. 4-5 Nm.

I don't doubt that Lee. My question/comment was more about, why aren't these new rims from a new supplier dated recent?
I heard from a US dealer and servicer, who agrees that the 18"rims were never a problem, cracks etc. The 19" are the ones that are now made of a different alloy and from a new supplier. The current 18" are from the old supplier. All his new cT's this year have rims dated 2015/16 Including the two that arrived last week.
I respect this blokes word on this (just as much as I respect your wealth of experience Lee) I'm now satisfied with the wheels on mine, but quite confused about loose spokes.

I ha e never had loose spokes in over 100000km. My just acquired Retro has 18’s marked April 2012.......that was the recall date for the 19’s. I had some cracked 19’s and they were way way overtightened from new......could not undo them with my T bar or 1/4 drive ratchet.

Wow, you've never had loose spokes! I always seem to be dicking around with mine. Mainly the pusher.

I just changed the pusher tyre so did a spoke check while the tyre was off. 18 inch rims...... roughly a third of the spokes were around 7-8 Nm with a couple super tight. All now set to 5 Nm and a nicely true rim. I broke two spokes in a steel rim in 2012 on my Cape York trip but other than that I have never encountered loose spokes on either steel or alloy rims on any of my Urals.

Only just confirmed this - might be useful to some:- While the 18" rims were not included in the APR 2012 recall, I know of one cT owner who was successful in getting his 18" 2015 stamped rims replaced under warranty due to cracking around the valve hole. (Ural Australia are excellent at customer service) Further searches of various forums also indicate that there are several other instances of cracking for rims marked 2015 (various months) in both 18" and 19" versions. The fracture almost always starts at the valve hole.
Why might this be useful? Because even though you buy a 2019/20 model you may not get 2019/20 rims as Raymond points out at the beginning of this thread.
If they were mine, I would be looking at Non Destructive Inspection with liquid penetrant before the warranty runs out. NDI will pick up cracking not yet visible.
Rims are expensive - just ask Bob.
