SWAARSTY 2021
(Southern Western Australia Autumn Russian Sidecar Tour Yippee)
Tuesday 27 April to Wednesday 19 May, 2021
G’day Everyone,
Those of you who attended ARSTY 2020 are already well aware that Jenny and I are going on a Ural ride along Western Australia’s south coast and into the south west forests next autumn. Anyone who is interested is welcome to join us for all or part of what will be a three week adventure.
The tour is modelled on the very successful 2017 ARSTTY tour of Tasmania that Wheels and Robyn organised, where we based ourselves in a sequence of towns and did multiple day trips into the surrounding countryside. There are travel days built into the schedule to relocate from town to town, and some free days as well.
The timing of SWAARSTY 2021 has been set to avoid Easter, the April school holidays and the ANZAC long weekend. If you want to join us from the start you’ll need to be in Esperance by Tuesday 27 April, ready to commence riding the following day. During the subsequent three weeks we’ll work our way along the coast basing ourselves at Hopetoun, Albany and Walpole before heading inland to Manjimup.
The recommended caravan parks have a range of accommodation options, including tent sites, caravan sites, cabins and chalets. So the tour will suit everyone whether you bring just a Ural, cars and trailers as well, or a ute and caravan like us. We have friends who have a 5 acre property at Esperance, so there’s an option to leave vehicles and trailers there once you get across the Nullarbor, and join the tour with just your outfit.
The day rides will be on mainly sealed roads, with a lesser amount of gravel. There will be some forest tracks and a couple of firm beaches as well to liven things up.
As we will be exploring a number of National Parks that have entry fees we strongly recommend you purchase an electronic Holiday Pass from the Dept of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions at shop.dbca.wa.gov.au/collections/park-passes/products/holiday-pass This will be a cheaper option, particularly if you go on to visit other National Parks after the tour.
Bookings at the Hopetoun Caravan Park should be made during January 2021, but the other Caravan Parks are happy to take bookings now. Big 4 Middleton Beach Holiday Park, Coalmine Beach Holiday Park and Fonty’s Pool Caravan Park and Chalets are very popular, so we recommend getting on to them sooner rather than later.
In all cases please mention that you are part of the Ural Group as some discounts are available.
The itinerary and accommodation is as follows:
