I’ve seen it a few times now on Ural rides with large groups where someone has got a flat tyre and had no idea where to start and how to go about fixing the problem. It’s all well and good when your riding in a group as there is always someone there that has had to do it and in most cases a fair few times and can assist, but it’s when your on your own and have never done one that things can get untidy. To start with! trying to get a Ural on it’s stand on your own can pose some problems so a Jack and a couple of blocks of wood can be a massive help. Most all the tools in the standard Ural tool kit will get the job done but a few extra spanners and tools go a long way to making the job a lot easier. I can go on and on with what one one should look out for if they have never changed a Ural wheel before but the best bit of advice I can give is practice doing it at home!...every wheel!...”practice makes perfect” and you will soon sort out what extras you will need to carry to get the job done. Don’t wait until your out on the road somewhere on your own because that’s when “Murphy’s Law” kicks in and you get your first Ural flat and you say to yourself shit! where to now? (because you’ve never done one before). It makes a lot of sense to be able to confidently do it yourself (remember! you have practiced) because if you can’t! it’s a truck ride home or you have to get someone else do it for you which could involve a long wait in a place you don’t want to be!...out in the bush or in the middle of a city! doesn’t matter! In another life in my Army days we practiced and practiced and practiced and when we thought we had it right we practiced more!...it always paid off!...still does! Cheers Wheels😎

Good advice Wheels. Also as I and others have posted before, those cap head screws holding the discs on all the wheels are glued in TIGHT! Without a butane lighter and a good key they're not coming out clean, you'll strip a cap head or stuff the key. Best practice as Wheels says before leaving home. No way I can get it on the main stand without a jack and that's in the shed, never mind on an uneven surface!
Cheers

To get onto the centre stand.....find something.....anything that you can drive the rear wheel up onto. The accessory shovel works. You don’t need much height if the tyre is not flat...... a bit more if it is flat. Makes it easy to get on stand......just don’t go too high or the stand will not reach the ground.
I don’t carry the centre stand so can someone try something for me please ?
Of course you all know you can tip the bike over onto the engine bar and rocker cover ( something soft under there if you are fussy). The bike will stay there safely while you do the SC wheel. While the bike is on its side........can you get the centre stand down ??.......then tip the bike back upright onto the stand.

Yeah rite!😎...the only bloody reason you didn’t have the bike stand was because the two into one exhaust system you put on didn’t fit if it was there so you removed it. Don’t bullshit a bullshitter mate!😎

Very true regarding practicing on tyre changing. I'm always paranoid about punctures. I find it hard even with using Mr sheen or WD 40 to remove from rim. Have used the spare once with no brakes. Not ideal but made it home.
