Just bought your first Ural or ordered one!...Check out our Forum Rallies and Rides!...not just the recent posts!...go way back and you will see there is a whole lot more to riding our Urals than the occasional weekend puttering.
Over the years we have had some serious organised rides. A fair amount of the 45,000kms on my Ural has been doing those rides with some very experienced Ural riders. What a learning curve it has been. Sure there has been times when I said to myself what am I doing here? and can I negotiate what those in front of me have just done? but the bullet was bitten and it was done with smiles all round afterwards. There is nothing like riding with people that have done it and are good at it. You will quickly learn what to do and what not to do in all types of situations, and if not paying attention, and worse still reckon you know it all, you will come unstuck!...quickly!
Over the years Bobsie and I both as riders and passengers with our Urals have had our moments and NOT come out unscathed, but were able to cope with some nasty situations solely because of our experiences riding with other very capable Ural riders over many and varied rides....thank goodness we did!
The upcoming Tassie Ural 5 Day Rip is a prime example of what I’m talking about. It’s not difficult, far from it, but it will be consistent, because as soon as your off the ferry it’s ride, and that will be the case for the next 5 days, rain, hail or shine until we have circumnavigated Tassie as best we can! (thats why it’s called the 5 day rip)...a lot of fun, camaraderie and experiences to be had with lots and lots of Ural smiles! (from the so far 17 Urals coming)...bring it on!
Cheers Wheels😎
