This is more a vent than anything I guess... today I removed the brake calliper so I could change tyres, then when putting one bolt back in it spauld (not cross threaded) and in getting it out the thread in the caliper was partly damaged. I have to find someone around here with a 10mm x 1.5 tap and a replacement bolt.
The bolt does not appear to be high tensile but I doubt it's just an ordinary bolt. Anyone know what kind of bolt these would be?

The bolts on my bike are 8.8. This mean tensile strength of 830 MPa (120,450psi).

Yep- a steel one! Actually, I find these bolts quite awkward to get back in- helps with a friend with a "persuader".

Funny, there was no 8.8 on mine to give me a clue. I found a tap and cleaned up the threads so I only need to find the bolt now. I'll head into town tomorrow and see what I can find...
Tyres fitted, rear spokes badly loose. That's a bit of a worry; they've never become so loose so quickly before.

Uralee- doctors have patience (patients)- I have various size hammers (and a left hand shifting spanner!)

Uralee- doctors have patience (patients)- I have various size hammers (and a left hand shifting spanner!) Hi Papasmurf, If you are correcting my use of "patient" then I shall be patient with you rather than making a patient of you at the hospital where you could join the other patients by not showing patience with me. Words that can be, or are used as adjectives or nouns, have often confused. I refuse to be confused. Be patient or perhaps, show patience. You will get it. cheers, lee What really makes me laugh are people with a left hand foot.
