Since Bobsie sold her Ural it’s been trial and error getting all our camping kit on the Retro, but looks like the “jobs right”. All being well!.... next Sunday we will be leaving the Northern Rivers NSW (home) for Uralla, Yarrie Lake, Walgett, Lightning Ridge, Dirranbandi, then across to Mungindi, Boomi to just outside Goondiwindi where we cross the Macintyre River then turn right onto Kildonan Road for Texas. From there it’s anyone’s guess, but it’s not that far to the Northern Rivers to complete the loop Home. A fair bit of dirt out West which we enjoy (hopefully minus to many corrugations). The thermal pools out there are a welcome respite when your dusty and weary. Should be a good ride!....we’ll see! Cheers Wheels & Bobsie 😎

Sound like a great trip, has the mice plague eased a little. Will be interested to see the roads you take as we are planning a trip to Lightning Ridge but with the car and camper

Not to sure about the mice Jake!...it’s the rats I’m more concerned about. A couple of them got us on our last trip to Lightning Ridge. Shortened us of $350 late one night right under our noses!...anything resembling cash or valuables stays in the scratcher with me now with a nasty looking deterrent device close to hand!😎

Got friends up at LR now. The mice plague is still happening mate. Jake, just curious, but you don't happen to own a Tvan do you? Curious, cos we owned one as well.

G’day Haitch, yes we did a while ago, had it for 7 years and all over Australia, Sold it and brought a Kimberley Karavan. Both are excellent and many trips. Tvan still has the best suspension.
And regards mice we just came back from NSW, had mice in the car and van, took some effort to get rid of the little buggers, fortunately no wiring damage.

Had ours from 2006 to 2009. Sold to my eldest. He just moved it on this year. Brilliant suspension indeed.

Will be interested to see the roads you take as we are planning a trip to Lightning Ridge but with the car and camper Jake Jake! thanks for the mice plague tip. We hadn’t given it a thought until you mentioned it. The results of a lot of ringing around this morning is not encouraging especially in the central north of NSW. The last thing we need is a bunch of mice trying to get in the tent with us, worse still chew the wiring out on the Ural and when they’ve done with that get stuck into our food. I think a change of plans is warranted but may stick our noses into the outer fringes of the area!...we’ll see how it goes!....hope these bloody mice can’t run any faster than 90km/hr. Lightning Ridge is a quirky place but super interesting as is the surrounding country. The place to stay there is the Opal Caravan Park, it’s just out of town and within close walking distance to the thermal pools. Booking is a must though. Cheers Wheels 😎

Thanks Wheels, we will be going once the mice numbers get down. I have had camphor in my engine bay on the car and used pepermint oil inside the van and the car, apparently they don’t like the smell and I certainly understand why!!

A short ride from Tenterfield to Texas yesterday. Saw 5 vehicles in 120kms and about 100 road kills, never seen anything like it. Visited the old Rabbit Works here in Texas this morning. Everything including the machinery is in such good condition you’d swear it was still operational. What an interesting place, and to top it off just as we were leaving this gentleman stopped by to tyre kick the Ural. Turns out he worked in the Rabbit Works for 6 years, told us they used to process 6000 Rabbits a day, that included skinning, gutting, chilling, freezing then packing the frozen rabbits in wooden boxes. They were then loaded on a train and sent to Brisbane with a lot of them being shipped on to England!..wild stuff! and well worth coming to Texas just to see the Works. Off to Killarney tomorrow for a couple of days then do the Lions Road, camping at the Rainforest Gateway. Talk about a change of plans!... outback to rainforest! Cheers Bobsie and Wheels.😎
