Hello Learned ones, Is there a trick to refitting the spare to the carrier. after many combinations i cant seem to get the Spare wheel "nut" to catch the thread of the boot mount. I cleaned the threads etc but it feels like the boot mount bolt is a few mm short. Perhaps i have to more determined?
thanks in advance.
Phil.

The plastic ‘gasket’ goes under the cap...not under the wheel. If yours has the sealing ring for the fake brake drum....make sure it is in place correctly.

G'day Phil, I have a 2015 Ranger, rear & spare are 19" with the large brake drum type hub. I had difficulty removing and replacing the spare wheel retaining nut early on. The retaining nut was tight on the stud and I had fears of the it 'picking up' and seizing on me. My fix was to run a tap into the nut and clean it out. It actually removed a little more metal from the threads and went on the stud perfectly after that. BUT, on top of that I found the shank was eccentric to the thread so I put it up in the lathe and cleaned it up, this trued things up and made the tapped hole concentric with the OD and now goes on no worries. I'm fortunate to have a lathe but you could achieve the same result with a little patience and a 12" bastard file . I smeared a bit of 'Bel-Ray' waterproof grease on the stud threads and have had no more problems since - happy days. Best of luck Bruce K.

thanks bruce, i ran a tap and die over the threads,to ensure they meshed okay, There is a black art to this, ill have to work it out. I had thought of going down a modifying route, i dont have a lathe but first rule, make sure im not doing some wrong. It was on when i got the bike i just have to work out how, thanks for the advise and the pic

hmm. my cap has this outer collar which stops it going down into the rack slot and engaging with the bolt. Ihave the large hubs on the pusher and spare.

That 'collar' looks like the bush which should sit in the hub. I.D. = 20mm+ to clear the axle but looks tight on your retaining cap. Definitely something wrong especially with the flange showing. Shouldn't be there - more investigation needed.

are there exploded parts diagrams for items such as the hub, it didnt look right and I could no way that the cap and bolt were to engage.

It looks like you have the SC axle washer jammed on there. Did you change the SC wheel ? Nut should look like this one I believe.
