Ok everyone with a winch. I have a chinese 4500lb winch. Looking from the back, winch horizontal, the motor is on the right. If I stand it up vertical the mounting base is to the right. Still looking from the rear of the combination. Note also that the feed out is from the bottom of the spool when pulling rope out toward the front. How can I get the mounting platform on the sidecar side (left from back) and still keep the feed out/in from the bottom of the spool.

Rotate the lot 180 degrees and rewind the rope to suit. You just want the rope entering the drum on the mounting side formaximum strength. If pulling from the rear, I completely unwind and run winch in opposite direction. Makes no difference which way the winch drum rotates.

I had the whole lot to bits yesterday trying to invert it..But, it is asymmetric in form. But not impossible. Too much effort though. What you suggest was my next plan. Thanks Lee Does everyone else do the same thing? I was a bit concerned about the effectiveness of the winch brake. But figured if it powered in and out, it must be braked in both directions equally.

Yes, it is just the gearing that causes the braking. Motor works the same in both directions with changed polarity.

Thanks Lee. One more question on this. Your rear mount near the sc drive uni seems to have stack of hex nuts used as packers?? where the uni guard and rear mount meet. Is there a particular need for that arrangement??

The welded lugs are below the top of the frame. Spacer (12mm nut) brings it up to the right level for support of my mount above the frame.

Hi Paul. It's time we looked at winch fitting. Can you help us out with a pick list? Not looking for another battery, but happy to take it on board, if consensus deems it so. My electrical skills are mediocre. It's OK Harry 12V DC will not kill you and if I can wire relays anybody can.

But, thanks for the vote of confidence.
