I don't make a habit of running out of fuel, I have done it twice in 33,000 kilometres. The first time was outside Guyra doing about 100 when there was a cough, splutter, burp and then it ran for a kilometre before it died. Coasted to a stop and filled it. Problem was the pump was bone dry with an air lock and needed bleeding (messy job at the best of times, but bad on a short shoulder with heavy vehicles going by just nasty).
After that I always wondered what would happen if I had managed to hit the kill switch after the first cough? I had to wait a long time to find out, but this morning it happened again and I hit the kill switch, pulled the clutch and coasted to a nice wide landing zone. Filled and it fired first go, needed a bit of coaxing to draw fuel but didn't need to be bled. In hindsight I should have found a level pull off place as that would have guaranteed fuel to pickup side, rather than waiting for it to equalise across. Or I could have dropped all 10 litres in, but I was missing a funnel so that wasn't going to happen. Either way killing the pump before it drew air worked. Might work for others.
Do the new ones have a tap/reserve ?

No tap- no reserve, just a low level light. Pump is in tank so self priming. Every time my Gen 1 ran dry it had to be bled……….hose off at 1 injector, ignition on and then get smelly hands. 🤣

Hose off at the injector is the way to go - up until recently I still had the OEM clips so couldn't do this.

My low level light started to flicker on a bend and was solid at about 15lts used.

On my 2014 Gen1 FI, I’ve never had to remove a hose to the injector to bleed it. You just have to remove the hose on the fuel pump to bleed it, once fuel is flowing then clip it back on and it fires right up! YMMV
