The neutral switch is the one in front of the lever….internal in the box. Just push the lever forward …..every URAL I have had has been the same.

Cheers Lee I scoped out the location and function of the switch prior to posting, realise that it earths the light to selector plate and can be adjusted although some reckon adjustment can be hyper-sensitive. Not sure if moving the reverse selector shaft in and out [laterally] whilst removing and refitting levers could have caused the light issue or not, pretty much idle curiosity as neutral is super easy to find.

Can usually find neutral ok, but not always with a light. Confirmation is easy by flicking the reverse lever in and then out. Easier than fumbling with the shifter. For now.

I was about to mention the neutral light too. Mine doesn't always display neutral. Sometimes when in neutral the light stays dark.
I reckon it might need adjusting. Has anyone done this?

Don’t ever mess with the neutral light switch. Lee said it all, it’s internal in the G/box. I messed with mine and things got real ugly. Nearly resulted in a box removal, but a very small special tool I made saved the day, but just by the skin of my teeth. If your neutral lights not coming on push your reverse lever forward as Lee said, but stuffing around with that switch, or worse still, pulling it out, is deadly. Cheers Wheels 😎

Thx Wheels, I had read on SS that adjustment was difficult and also some vague reference to nasty things happening, mine will remain undisturbed.

Re neutral switch…..if you have a dig around SS, Van (one very Ural savvy bloke) has a video out showing why you should be wary of messing with that switch. It was that very clip that helped me out of what could have been an awful dilemma. 😎

Thanks wheels, I might just put this in the too-hard basket for the time being. Plenty other things do anyway. In the process of modifying the F/D case. I think I'm on a well trodden path with this one...

Re-researched [can you do that ?] the neutral light thing and also PM to Jon Heindl on SS. Upshot is that the neutral light switch earthing contact within the gearbox is an odd leaf spring type device attached to the selector quadrant. This can be damaged or dislodged if the reverse shifter shaft is drawn outward whilst removing the reverse shift lever, the lever should only be removed with a small two jaw gear puller. Fortunately mine apparently remains in place, later build machines have the spring thing fixed with a screw rather than the previous rivet. Drained the gearbox tonight and thankfully found no leaf spring remains on the drain plug magnet, reckon I dodged a bullet and the spring remains in place although probably a little depressed at switch contact point. I will be leaving well enough alone, the extensive SS thread mentions gear selector malfunctions [jumping out of first particularly] if switch depth is toyed with. Jon Heindl is a Gentleman.
