The last day of the recent Tassie ride to catch the ferry at 5pm for a 7.30pm departure (minus Lee & Heather, Bob & Sue and Beffy who did their own thing, though Beffy caught up with us at lunchtime and Gary and Hahn followed us with their Motorhome and Ural in tow on his ripper trailer) a ride from St Helen’s to Devonport via Scottsdale 258km an easy day eh! well 7kms into the day a sidecar flat with the valve being ripped fair out of it’s home. To easy you say, just pop on the spare, guess what, it didn’t fit the sidecar and at that stage it was a very brief discussion why it wouldn’t because we were too busy putting in a new tube. That fixed, we’re off like a rat up a drainpipe for a coffee stop at Scottsdale then lunch at Bert Munro’s Motorcycle cafe at Exeter. That done, it was off to catch the ferry at Devonport 60kms away (this is where the “never say never” bit comes in) you guessed it another flat! but this time a pusher tyre (this part you didn’t count on though) it was on the same bike and in a very nasty spot on the side of the road just over a crest. With some quick thinking from Alex, and the indomitable Gary and his trailer, one bike was off and the offender on and do the wheel change at the ferry terminal prior to departure. This was done with many hands making light work of the job with all the girls having a drink and giving encouragement. I think we were the last to board but there were smiles all round. Another of the great Ural experiences when you ride with a great bunch of people. Cheers Wheels 😎 ”Never say Never”

Meant to mention!…Bobsie and I copped Covid on the way home from Tassie so the wait is over! On the mat at the moment and got 7 days being confined to barracks screwing around with devices. Not good!😎

Glad to hear you’re all alive and kicking Paul. A few more days and you will have made it through what is the best (if not the only) way of acquiring immunity. I trust Bobsie is even closer to recovery ? As for your story writing skills, I think you might yet have another career ahead of you. You’re right though, that last day gave us all a bit of a kick. It went to show how lucky we were all the other 13 days in much more vulnerable locations I might add (much of which can be attributed to your flawless planning and execution) and what a strong team we had become. ‘Nobody gets left behind’ - not just one of your sayings of our fearless leader Where to next Wheels ? Covid recovery coming along good for Bobsie and I Alex. Once we’ve got this out of the road it’s over to the USA for us, sooner rather than later. It’s been a long 4 years since we’ve seen our Grandkid’s, Daughter and Son in law. Thanks for the kind remarks mate. 😎
