Finally got around to changing out the oem shocks on the 2016 Ranger, plenty of wallow which needed fair amount of body lean and caution. They had done approximately 50k km, a good portion of which was dirt and corrugated riding. Considered the options and decided on fitting the Nitron kit as promoted by Ural. Reasonably easy to fit except for the sidecar strut which needed to be compressed for fitment. Solution - a quick release clamp from Bunnings with 265 kg clamp pressure worked a treat. Lower s/c strut bolt bit hard to torque due to getting a socket on the bolt, but standing on the step and leaning on the rear of the chair enabled a gap to get the socket on. Weight of 5 oem shocks approximately 10kg, 5 Nitrons 5kg, weight saving 5kg overall. The Nitron springs come pre set compression for the average Ural ride whatever that is! The ride is excellent with no wallow or roll of the outfit, it just sits tight and square on the mountain twisties and at mid range adjustment of the preload/ compression damper it soaked up bumps and small culverts. I’m looking fwd to see how it handles corrugated tracks. Overall impressions- fantastic, you don’t know what you’re putting up with until you change, and in this case it’s light years ahead of the oem shocks. Expensive. Relatively easy to fit. Simple one input adjustment.

Hi Ranger Jack, Lucky you getting Nitron Shocks. How do you reckon your bike would ride the corrugations of the Oodnadatta Track now with the luxury shocks? Cheers, Longtravel

Its a difficult choice between Nitron and HCS shocks. I reckon the Nitrons look a bit stronger and reliable and the HCS possibly better performance with the remote reservoir. It would be no good having a shock fail on a trip. Has anyone else fitted Nitrons?
