How good are the 2nd Gen EFI Bikes? The 2019 19" wheel model is a Classic sitting on 120kph. Although I am happy to sit on 110kph on more relaxed days. If feels quite nippy in the lower gears. If you start long hills at 120kph it will hold that speed all the way up. If you start at 110kph it slowly looses speed up the hill (that's loaded up with passenger and gear).
It will do 148.5kph (only under closed road conditions) and that is with sports setup with the small rider fairing, no windscreen on the tub and the faster rolling 308 tyres. But still with sidecar chick on board, weight in the boot and picnic basket on the rack. Maybe the picnic basket acts as a spoiler on these faster Urals.
I would say the available power is commensurate with the handling and braking of the bike. Maybe with 18"wheels more power would be good. Has anyone had experience comparing the handling of 18"and 19" bikes? Would a 18" wheel bike be able to corner 10% faster than with 19"wheels?

How good are they?
Very good and a nice improvement over the pre 19. However, continuous 110-120kph and you will not end up with a ‘long travelling’ engine. 90-100 is the engines happy speed. 😇
Also, I suggest a speedo check with a GPS.

Hi Lee, Yes speedo is accurate. This is the model with significantly improved fuel delivery, 24% more oil capacity, 20% more fin cooling area, better oil pick up, good bearings etc. Have faith that IMZ have designed a really good motor. Of course I always back it off on a hot day. This bike is never stressed. The motor is pampered.
Try it when your motor is run in. Up a long hill at 120kph sitting at the torque sweet spot, then try it at 110kph with the speed gradually decreasing until you have a choice of lugging the motor in top or back to about 80kph in third, while the traffic goes past at 120kph.
I was sure glad to have a bike with the capacity to do 120kph in the NT with the 130kph speed limit. The 120kph lets you stay out of the way of the faster road train triples and overtake the slow road trains.
What a fun bike! Are you going to the Alpine this year? Cheers Long Travel
