Hi Haitch,
I really appreciate you thinking of me. And I'm sorry I haven't posted any updates recently. We now have done about 2000km with an heavily loaded bike. Tent, sleeping gear, cooking utensils, gas stove, water, provisions, spare fuel, spares, tools..... the list goes on. We like to go to remote places in the bush where we don't see anyone else and most of the time have no phone reception which means being totally self sufficient.
In case something should happen we carry a well stocked first aid kit and a PLB.
There are also a lot of dusty, muddy or washed out tracks, non existing bridges etc. Initially a big problem was steering the bike going up a steep dirt track, the front wheel was just too light. Since moving water to the front, putting more weight on the bike and lightening up the sidecar rear rack this is not a problem anymore.
The other issue was was the suspension. I have now found "my setting" which is 2nd notch on front, 4th on rear and 4th on sidecar. The rig now feels stable and my wife is more comfortable.
I am now feeling quite comfortable handling these weights. The only thing I will need to try and improve are the brakes, they are really not quite adequate. But then again I have learned to adjust my riding stile accordingly, in other words 'take your time'.
And once again I have to agree with Lee. Yes, the rig can handle it. And yes, the more hours you have on it the more comfortable you get.
In any case we both are having awesome fun whenever/wherever we go, what more could we want?

Thanks Taz. Glad its working out for you. Where on the front did you mount the water? Rotopax?. Are you still using standard suspension? Or after market. Cheers. Haitch.

Taz, why don't you put up an image of your outfit, showing where everything is situated. From what I saw when we met, it looked like you had it all sorted.

It's definitely on the list after a 4wd had to pull us out of a creek. Those boulders were just too big and slippery. And yes that was one of the famous missing Tassie bridges

Bobsie and I fully loaded on our Feb 2018 Tassie three week ride. 2012 Retro and a 2013 Tourist….flawless, but camping with 2 people for any length of time on one rig is hard…Possible, but hard! so using two rigs was a luxury. A lot of camping gear fits in a sidecar! 😎 edit…camping may be a little hard on one rig for 2 people, but Taz nailed it when he said it’s a lot of fun, and it’s a great way to enjoy your Ural.
