Having now done almost 800kms on my 2022 GU, I’ve done the first service and all is well. We’ll, apart from what seems to be a possible drag in the rear brake.
On every ride over the last few days, the rear disc rotor is very hot, much hotter than the front or sidecar discs.
I have free play in the master cylinder pushrod. Approx 2mm. Same in the sidecar master.
There is no discernible drag when rolling on a flat surface or when spinning the wheel with it in the air. The rotor doesn’t look burnt, but it’s too hot to touch, unlike the front or side rotors.
What do you reckon, paranoid? Or worth further investigation?

Hi Is your handbrake on or off? Is the toe of your boot just resting on the pedal? Is the rest of the rear hub, the rear final drive etc, getting hot? There was a thread somewhere talking about the pads not retracting properly, they needed looking at and a bit of suitable lubrication. How much oil did Ivan put into the FD? Just a few thoughts Cheers Mick

At a guess. Accidental activation by your left boot.

2mm free play may be insufficient.

Just a few thoughts Cheers Mick I thought about the left boot activation, but I’m really careful on that. I’m in the process of making a plate. 2mm free play should be plenty, that’s what’s there when it’s hot, not cold. I’ll look into the pads not retracting, had a similar issue on a Triumph Tiger. Might just need a little more time to bed in the calliper pistons. Will check the final drive. I’ve only done the first valve/head tension service. Oil change is tomorrow/Sunday. Thanks for the input 👍

Plate will sort it out, you may be trying to avoid boot on the linkage but there is much going on in your head.

We’ll then…. I went for another ride this morning and triple checked my left boot placement after every shift, and purposely didn’t use the rear brake at all. 20 minutes of traffic and found a stone cold rotor. So I was paranoid, and not as careful as I thought with my left boot.
Off to the shop for a piece of checker plate aluminium!
Thanks all for the feedback… Uralla bound Tuesday for a new EFI map.

At a guess. Accidental activation by your left boot. Agreed, I had the self same issue. Moved the linkage on the spline, no more problem. The linkage does sit lower under the outfit, but it's marginal.
