For anyone interested the following are some details of the Walcha Rally from Jon Taylor. The accommodations are on the Taylor property at Kentucky which is situated between Uralla and Walcha. We have stayed there several times. It’s basic, clean, comfortable accommodation, perfect for Ural folk and not far from Walcha. The rally is a well run, fun event that the whole town gets behind.

…….. The Walcha Motorcycle Rally 18th 19th of November 2022
This year the Walcha Rally has expanded its range of activities and displays.
The full program is online.- walchamotorcyclerally.com.au
Last year we held a sidecar Gymkana competition in the show ring on Saturday evening. It proved to be entertaining and an opportunity for the competitors to show there sidecar driving skills as well as the spectators having an opportunity to see how maneuverable these machines are.
The gymkana required each rider and passenger to successfully complete five different consecutive maneuvers against the stop watch. This included a flag race, a bending race, a reversing course, a sidecar flying circle and a barrel rolled through a gateway using the front wheel to push it.
There were several organized adventure rides on Friday and Saturday and they were well attended and showed off some of our best motorcycling roads.
There were displays of vintage and show motorcycles with live music and catering to entertain between events.
This year we see an expanded list of activities. The sidecars will have their own guided adventure ride on the Friday morning, taking in some of the more interesting tracks through our local mountain ranges. That ride will be back at the showground in good time for the sidecar gymkana which has a 4pm starting time. We have a sheet explaining the gymkhana tasks for interested competitors so they can polish their skills for the event. Last years winner was a female rider with her 8 year old son in the chair, so don’t think this event is for crazy speedsters.
On the Saturday morning there is a street parade with a wide variety of motorcycles to pass through the main street of Walcha. That is followed by the Saturday adventure rides open to bikes and sidecars alike.
There are many more show ring events in the afternoon as well as good music, food and drnks.
Sunday is a free day with plenty of motorcycles and catering still around just socializing. Some motorcyclists need the day to get home, but others stay longer to soak up the atmosphere.
I hope some of you will join us. Don’t forget to book in to the Rally beforehand. Walcha accommodation gets booked out, but Michael Taylors “The Huts” complex is available for our Ural fraternity with 14 beds and the woolshed floor and paddock camping can cater for many more Uralists! His phone is 67787214.
