My wife and I are traveling to Tas in Feb 23 for 3-4 weeks. We'll have a finite window from Feb 16 to March 11.
My question is, for those who have done the trip before, did you ride all the way to the shipping terminal, or did you use a trailer. If you used a trailer, where did you leave it?
The terminal is now at Geelong, and we're staying with friends in St Kilda the night before sailing.
Alternatively, we ride the whole way doing 350-400kms a day for two and a half days.
What's the collective experience?

Miker! My wife and I have done 4 trips on our Urals to Tassie. In each case we trailered the rigs (I say rigs! because on one of our trips my wife had her own Ural) as we live in Northern NSW. Fortunately we were able to have a place to store the car and trailer. Some of the Sydney and surrounds folks accompanying us on a couple of the rides rode their Urals from Sydney to the ferry at the old terminal without any problems. The trip from St Kilda to Geelong is not that far and I’m sure boarding at Geelong will be a lot better than at the old terminal in Melbourne. On two of our trips we actually left our car and trailer at Geelong and rode the short distance to the old terminal in Melbourne. Jogging along the Hume Freeway in the left lane watching the world go by including the B Doubles is quick, easy on your Ural, and not a bad way to go for a day or two, it’s a small price to pay for touring Tassie on your Ural. We can’t get enough of Tassie, and will definitely be back there again on our Ural in the not to distant future. Cheers Wheels 😎

Thanks Lee, Wheels, Jury is still out on trailering or not. I like the idea of having more time on the Island, but have mapped out some interesting diversions to ride all the way, that won't take that much longer.

Miker, I live at Broadford a hour north of Melbourne just off the Hume Hwy. You are more than welcome to park your car and trailer at my property if that helps. Regards Brian

Regards Brian Brian, that’s brilliant thank you. That’s what’s so good about forums like this. Never met the bloke, but happy for me to park the car and trailer at his place. 👍👍
