Its better to "beg for forgiveness than ask for permission" so someone said... Last Thursday week I rode down with a mate on the way to the Karuah Rally to Uralla, riding an 07 Dakar and mate on a 2014? Sertao. Stopping in to see Clare and kick tyres staying at the Top Pub for the night. We both had already placed orders, mine a RedSparrow and his a Sahara. Friday early we were at Jon Taylor's property for training. Starting with the basics and ending up flying the chair. After 43 years since I sold my Goldwing/DJP/Watsonian I needed a refresher, especially for the dirt, the Ural is a totally different, from memory, outfit to ride. Jon as many no doubt will know is a great instructor, showing us a heap of strategies for off road riding. When I arrived home after the 1750k five day ride I fessed up and showed my wife the photos and videos taken of me looking competent. Back in the 70's we had ridden to many rallies, even taking our very young son with us as far as the Alpine from Melbourne on two occasions. When I showed my choice of Ural there were objections, she would want a "safer colour" white or yellow, I compromised with a Weekender with both. Build is now out to March with delivery June/July hoping she doesn't change her mind in the meantime :-) Attachments:Ural-Weekender-3.webp (58.19 KB)
