Fitted Duro 308's all round on the Retro…...the rims are running true but the tyres do not!!! there seems to be a distinct sideways wobble from the tyres, especially the tyre I fitted on the front wheel, although it can't be felt when riding when one would expect some vibration through to the handlebars, steering is normal. Strange!!! Has any one else out there had this problem with Duro 308's. Cheers Paul (Wheels)

Duro 308s have been supplied as original equipment on all Urals with 19inch rims since 2010. They are a fairly good tyre, and I use them on the front wheel on Speedboat & Squib. Can you show some pics or a video of the problem?

Dare I ask........did you apply plenty of lubricant ??
Very easy for the bead not to be seated properly on the rim and this will cause wobble.

Your right on Lee!…...Just had the front wheel off and accurately measured from the outside edge of the rim to a raised line just up from the bead on the tyre (it runs around the circumference) and sure enough there is at least a 3mm difference from the closest point to the furthest which turns out to be exactly 180 degrees apart and right where the wobble is at its max or min…..which is a lot! in fact it causes at least a 5-8mm wobble in the tyre. Lee I used windex to lubricate the beads when I initially fitted the tyres but it would have dried out before I put air in to seat the beads. While I had the tyre off this morning I let the tyre down cracked the beads applied heaps of lubricant (dishwashing liquid and water) pumped the tyre up to 10 psi then bounced it around pumped up to 50psi then let air out to 30 psi and wobble still there!!! By the way the wobble is the same on each wheel, I checked again this morning. Initially I thought it was worse on front wheel but that is not the case. So!!! the problem detected but not solved……..The rims are alloy 18 inch, and the 4 tyres I bought off Jon last year I got for a great price, they were on sale! I bought another Duro 308 off him last week and it looks exactly the same as the others except it has a white line around the circumference of one side of the tread. I think I will take the front tyre off and replace it with the latest Duro and see what happens
I hope it's not the alloy 18 inch rims and Duro's Cheers Paul (Wheels)

Paul, I rang but you were obviously busy in the shed changing tyres..... Dishwashing liquid will do the job. I use CRC, WD40 or silicone spray.......the silicone is cleaner but does dry too fast. The important part is to get the lube on the HORIZONTAL part of the bead. It is that which grabs and the wall bends to accomodate.

Finalising this subject…….I emailed Jon at Ural Australia re the Duro 308's and his response was immediate and makes a lot of sense, and I am more than happy to let it go at that. When it's all said and done its a Ural, and we don't really rip along the highways at 160 km/hr requiring precision balanced tyres. I reckon that Jon's on the mark, with a few more km's on the tyres and a few rough roads the tyre beads will sort themselves out on the rims as with any other distortions. All's Good! Attached is Jon's reply and thanks to the team at Ural Australia…….Thanks Lee. Cheers Wheels Duro 308s.pdf (31.91 KB)
