I've done it at last. Ended up going with 12mm exterior plywood, and a treated pine 80x40 underfloor/chassis. It cost less than $400 all up, including the tonneau cover. I haven't road-tested it yet, but I expect it to be exciting, because it weighs much less that the original body. I need to fit the spare wheel somewhere, probably rear right.

Yes, thats very "utillitarian", or did you just steal the dogs kennel and fit it upside down ? Sure looks like you will fit alot of sh*t in that......

It's very much what I have been threatening to do... good job! It was actually pretty quick and easy to do, Rosco. 1800Lx600Wx450D. Liquid nails and galv screws. The cutout for the sidecar suspension was the only bit that needed some thought. It's just U-bolted to the chassis with a bit of rubber around the tubes. How it will stand up to use remains to be determined. The lack of weight will probably be an issue without 55kg total of dog ballast. I'm not sure if the whole thing is even legal, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it...

It's illegal.........requires side reflectors on the box and because it obscures the light on the mudguard, it probably needs a tail light. Super for those trips to Bunnings.....

streamlined Yes, Wheels. It is a bit blunt. But aerodynamics was not part of the design brief.

Now here's a thing. I haven't weighed the original body, or the new one. But the plywood body is a lot lighter. I can pick it up and carry it, unlike the original, which needs a piano trolley to move it. But mileage, as it used to be called. I am now getting about 6.5l/100km (43mpg), measured over the last four tanks of juice. Previously I was getting about 7.7l/100km. I have serviced and tuned the bike, (20,000km) since Xmas, but I haven't seen this sort of improvement after earlier services. As Uffa Fox said, 'for more speed, add lightness'
