I had a set of tappets replaced under warranty back in August 2016. The originals failed due to inadequate heat treatment. It was nagging at me wondering if the new tappets were in fact hard, or soft like the originals. So after a lot of "will I, won't I?" I finally got around to pulling them out to check and the good news was YES! the replacements were hard. But this is what I found. Needless to say I was moderately pissed off. It's a good job the only cost in this whole sorry exercise has been time. The RH cylinder base gasket had been installed arse about face effectively blocking off the oil drain hole. This would have caused the RH rocker box to completely fill up with oil (and explains other issues as well). Thank f--k I decided to do this or I might never have discovered the balls-up. Anyway, the warranty expires soon and I'll be doing any necessary mechanical work myself from here on. I'm a happy camper now and can look forward to confidently putting some serious km on the Ural. P.S. I didn't use gaskets under the cylinders on re-assembly. I used 'Loc-Tite' 515 instead. Much better, oil tight and no possibility of parts 'walking' and chewing out the paper gasket OR getting the gasket the WRONG way around!
