Not too sure if this is the right place for this post, but here it is.
The SA Sidecar Owners now have a face book page. The club is open to all SA sidecar owners. It is totally informal, as are our Ural groups. No fees or committees etc. Just request to join and then take part to see what is happening in the three wheeled world in SA. Hope to see you there. PS, on face book just search for SA Sidecar Club. I am having trouble over the last few months with the steering as , I have redeveloped tendernitis ( old injury ) now I am restricted to only short rides. have been searching the internet for alternative front end for my vsx 1100 yamaha custom ( leading link ,EZ steering ect ) but have had only moderate success. As it now appears that leading link is to expensive am trying to track down other alternatives. Can any-body help

Hi Peter, Yes a leading link can be expensive! Especially as they need engineering approval in most states. It used to be relatively easy to adapt a second hand pair from another bike when most were of similar dimensions, but yours would be a bit harder.
Cruisers make good outfits but the very slow standard steering angle and trail make it hard work without a proper front end.
Probably the cheapest option would be an axle re locater which bolts on in the old axle and calliper mounts and puts the wheel further forward. Still not cheap as it would be a one off. A custom set of triple clamps, top and bottom, with the correct off set is another option, though not cheap again.
Can you slide the forks up the clamps about 20 - 30 mm? This reduces trail and angle, which would help, after re setting the chair.
Also try going down a size on the front tyre, again reducing angle and trail.
Another trick with a little benefit is find some bar risers that also bring the bars back towards you. This can act in a similar way to a lever. The further away from the pivot point, the easier the work, ie steering.
I hope this helps! The sad fact is that modern solo bikes are not designed with side cars in mind. If you are on face book, look at this page and talk to Brock, he does some amazing stuff. He is in the Canada but may have more ideas. Side Effects Sidecars and Trikes. He can supply Off set triple clamps, no idea how much.

I found that new handlebars- Western bend, with about a 6" rise- were very good. The angles were very conducive to easier steering. Also- push and pull- using both sides of the bars- helps. I have arthritis in the fingers, and installed a set of the old-style grips on the Ural- the ones which are fatter in the middle. $25 from the local dealer, or online from Trojan Spares in Sydney.
