Started down the Princes hwy to Nowra then M92 to Nerriga, nice easy country riding through to Braidwood and into the Araluen Valley for the first night. Next day off to Cooma via the Cooma / Snowball road through Badja & Numeralla, a good road with absolutely no traffic plenty of dirt with some tar for fun. Fuelled in Cooma and then down through the Monaro via Bombala and Delegate where I picked up the Bonang hwy. Tar soon turns to dirt as I tracked through the burnt out forests from last years fires, some forests are completely stuffed whereas others are heavy into the re-growth phase. About 1/2 way down the Bonang on the Victorian side I made camp at Goonderah at a nice free camp in a burnt forest area. Off next day and some lovely running through the corners into Orbost (they don’t call the Bonang the road of a 1000 bends for nothing! I’m definitely going to do that road again on a solo. Next day followed the Snowy river to the sea at Marlo and an easy day sightseeing around Orbost. Over to Nowa Nowa next morning where I picked up the Great Alpine Road to Omeo then started the climb up through Dinner Plain to the summit at Mt Hotham. Weather very cold and breezy and the Ural completed the climb mostly in 3rd gear. The summit (1800m) was where the road got a bit narrower and the descent steeper, causing me to do the 2 big descents (CRB and the Meg) in 1st gear to avoid riding the brakes too much. For those that don’t like heights, narrow roads and precipitous edges I wouldn’t recommend it ..... but the views are spectacular. Completed the descent into Harrietville and it was good to travel at normal cruising speed again. Along the old tobacco growing Ovens Valley with all the autumn leaves in their different colours and into Myrtleford for the overnight. A long day in the saddle and the route took me longer than I had expected, I guess that’s Alpine riding!!
Next day some undulating hills through Beechworth and into Wodonga for a catch up with old friends. Next leg along the Murray to Mildura which should be a slow trip with a fair bit of river camping.

Nice trip Jack. Some good roads covered and you missed some of the better ones so you need to come back again. If you think the road of 1000 bends was good then you need to do the one that runs parallel to it down Bonang to Orbost on dirt......Yalmy rd......much better road for the Ural. 🤣🤣👍 Not sure about 1st gear on the Hotham rd, I’ve never needed that. 😳 but you do seem to have quite a load on.
Keep on riding, 😷
Great free camp with dunny at Carters Beach on the Murray just out of Strathmerton. Worth a night.
