Hi I'm Richard or Rick and considering purchasing a Ural and though that this would be a good place to get some ideas.

Hi Rick, If I had my time again (and the money) I would buy new. Failing that I would try to get something after 2019 with the 4 bolt headcover and Gen II EFI system. Personally I would skip the 14-18 range due to manufacturers of the EFI system no longer supporting it (or Ural for that matter) unless you want to spend somewhere North of 3K replacing it eventually although I did hear of an EFI crowd in Europe that will fix the internal circuit boards barometric sensor so there might be hope yet. Good news about that year of bike is the crank is normally good. Pre 14 should be fine. It is possible that all the bugs will be ironed out - maybe. Parts are still ok, but you have to ask yourself if you want a 70's Corolla or a 90's one.... folks that have owned both won't bash their old ones in public, but get hem with a few beers under their belts and they will unload like there is no tomorrow

If you are unsure you can put a toe in the water for 10-12k. You will always get your money back at that level if it is not for you. You will blow 5k+ if you buy new and don’t gell with it.
Andy, my memory is 14-15 had crank issues from new supplier. My 15 crank was replaced.

Hey Rick,
You could do what I did. Do the Ural training at Ural of OZ. Get expert training from Jon Taylor and see if you like it. I did, and ordered my 2022 a few days after I did the training. There are a couple of good early ones around. A 2104 in QLD for $16k with really low kms and some good extras. Ping me if you want the details.
Lee is correct, if you're really not sure, an earlier one will get your money back, and they're usually pretty good if well looked after. I have no regrets buying new, I got one of the last Russian assemblies built Dec 21 as a 22 model Gear Up 2WD. Love it.

...Andy, my memory is 14-15 had crank issues from new supplier. My 15 crank was replaced. Agree, but most of the late 14's and all the 15's had the D10 crank, unfortunately some just weren't fitted right and eventually failed - mine and yours included. Rick, I guess the best advice is buy what you can afford. The majority of owners don't have any issues with their machines. The rest of them have a love hate relationship - like me .
Used prices are high not because of scarcity but love. Only people that absolutely have to give them up do.
