G'day Lee, "Drive shaft universal Front wheel bearings Front tyre Disc pads Brake fluid Final drive oil Lubed splines Tightened all chair and engine mounts.....hmmm interesting Cleaned fuel tank and carbs Modified carby pistons" How or what modification did you do to the carby pistons / slides? Hi Chris, Increasing the size of the vacume port in the piston slide apparently enhances pick-up from very low revs. My bike has suffered from this forever... Idling across a creek crossing then trying to accelerate up the bank to get out has been a problem. I looked at the Kawasaki pistons ( same carby ) they have three ports, ours have one. Rather than drill the original oversize, which is pretty hard to reverse if needed, I drilled a 1.5 mm hole alongside the original. I have to say, I have a steep driveway and I can now accelerate from idle much much better than previously. Lee

Thanks Lee, I've heard of a few people doing this and now I have joined them. I decided to open up the existing hole to about 0.110". Haven't gone for a ride yet, only test started it and no apparent difference there. I've had a string of overdue tasks to give some attention too, including valve adjustment, adjust steering bearings, oil and filter changes, and reorganising the spare wheel and rack. I've had a persistent problem of idle climbing when engine hot and bike stopped in traffic. The same problem with throttle closed on steep descents and not getting the full benefit of compression braking, due to what seems like carby pistons not returning. Induction air leak seems to be the obvious answer but I can't find a crack or leak. Just about ready to hit the road again to join Jon's ride. I'll leave here Wednesday arvo and arrive at Kentucky Thursday arvo. Chris D in Ippy.

I learned - I put the tyre half on, put the tube in, put a little air in it and eased it the rest of the way on... then I took it off, put a new tube in it and repeated the excercise... then took it off again and got the shop to do it! Some things just aren't meant to be I guess...
