I figured that... might have been a bit lucky finishing the trip. I have a spare FD, but I don't want to put a worn wheel spline on it so I guess I'm up for a new wheel or hub. Since the $$ are needed elsewhere the bike might have to sit up on blocks 'til March. That's going to hurt.

Speedboat is on fd number 4, & and the wheel hub splines are still unchanged. I use the Edwards spline protection system, a $1 222 "O" ring. It keeps the spline grease clean and in place, and spline wear is virtually zero.

G'day Norm, is there a photo on these pages for this? Hope all is well.

Can't win...
I replaced the FD with one I was told was reconditioned at Uralla. When I put the uni joint on the input the pin pulled up ok without needing shims. After a couple of short rides I noticed the taperd pin had pulled halfway through. No worries, I pull the FD to re-do the shims properly.
I left the FD on the bench overnight with the input angled downwards and next morning all the oil had run out all over the place. It was as if the front seal wasn't even there. I haven't looked...
And to top it off I can't find my shims. If I have to order new ones what would be a good place to start (size wise)?
