Re Cape York I am more than happy to organise it. I lived in Cairns for 10 years and commercially fished the reef from way south of Cairns to way north of Lizard Island. spent a lot of time in Cooktown and have a lot of great contacts right the way up to the top. Just throwing this one out there for comments, if anyone else wants to take it on then that is good also. From experience late August early September is probably the best time, no monsoons and very few howling SE trade winds. The year 2018…2019 By Wheels.... Needs to be 2019 mate..Copied over from Gawler thread.......

Sounds good Lee….(looking like two events in the one year if we are to fit New Zealand in) Need a few hands up or expressions of interest for Cape York in Aug/Sept 2019

I'm definitely up for this run. Still a long way off so I'll see how things pan out as the time gets nearer.
Had a chance to do Cape York way back in 1978 but couldn't make it due to work commitments. Regretted it ever since and it's been on my bucket list ever since.

Those interested in Cape York… checkout….www.seaswift.com.au/files/media/original/056/d47/265/MV-Trinity-Bay-Cruise-brochure.pdf This boat trip gets you and your bike right near the tip of Cape York via Thursday Island which is well worth a look at. The Boat trip up the coast is in sight of the coast all the way and inside the Reef which is spectacular. A great alternative for those that intend to ride to Cairns but don't want to do the up and back road trip from Cairns to Cape York return. Keep in mind there will be fairly heavy tourist 4WD and road train traffic at that time of the year and from experience the road dusty and corrugated. Re the boat trip it is much better to do it from Cairns north because the prevailing wind is from the SE which means you have it behind you all the way to Thursday Island making it super pleasant. It's a fairly large freighter but still better to have the wind behind you than wind and spray in your face. Even on a one way bike trip Cape York to Cairns there is a lot to see and do with some great diversions….. Just throwing this one out there for comment as the boat trip is super popular and will have to be booked early for those wishing to take advantage of it. Cheers Wheels

I called the Sea Swift people….they can't do it…all the cabins are mostly reserved for passengers on a return trip…. and if they could would charge car prices for a ural and bookings would have to be done now for 2019….end of story!!! So it"s up and back now by road which will be a lot of fun

It's a pity about Sea Swift Paul,
But Jenny and I are up for Cape York anyway.
Thanks, Geoff.
