Judy and I are keen to do this. April 4 to 14 works for us. The Wallaroo/Lucky Bay ferry looks like an interesting option, and may be a good spot to meet up for those travelling from the East.

Gawler Ranges update: Not much to update as yet, Mt Ives Station have not replied to my email so I shall call them soon for some details/info. The SeaSA Car & Passenger Ferry advised me that Senior Cards are valid for great discounts and a sidecar is the same price as a Trike which is logic.
My thoughts are as the cost is not really that high the Ferry option both ways would save many hours not being on the black roads via Port Augusta.
More info soon .
Cheers

Ferry at $130 each way getting exxy.....just saying....! May make sense on the way home going East from down near Port Lincoln, but if we are starting in the Gawler Ranges there is not much in it.

I would most likely do the ferry on the way back, just posting the idea to view the response, still thinking Port Augusta, Orroroo or similar as a meeting point for a night then off to Mt Ives Station for the 295km run, 115km of dirt from Kimba. Yeah and 5nights at Mt Ives then 5nights Lincoln .
Making a call to MT Ives Station this week for more info on accommodation etc .
Cheers

Gawler Ranges on Urals SA April 2018 . GROUSA This is the info so far: do I need to readjust any items ? For more detailed Area information you can log onto : www.wudinna.sa.gov.au They will send you out maps/books/area details etc
Taking into consideration those that may come from WA & NT or across on the Lucky Bay Ferry I reckon meeting at KIMBA on Wednesday April 4 would be a good central point as a fuel/lunch stop before heading up the Buckleboo Road to Mt Ives a distance of 105km on mostly dirt. The alternative road to Mt Ives from Iron Knob is a thro road to Kingoonya and Coober Pedy. Tuesday 3 April : for the early birds Pre-accommodation at Nuttbush Retreat 40kms West of Port Augusta is a great place to camp and is 138kms from Kimba. www.nuttbush.com.au/ ph: 08 8643 8941 Good selection of accommodation/cost & facilities Wednesday 4 : meet at Kimba 12:00 noon Mt Ives : pre Booked 5 nights with a reserve for at least 8 to 10 Urals/couples , this booking is under my name [ Rob Cochrane ] and needs to be confirmed by late January 2018 , best each individual call to reserve a booking/select accommodation type prior to late January. www.mtive.com.au/ ph: 08 8648 1817 Mt Ives is 200kms West of Port Augusta , NO FUEL at IRON KNOB . Mt Ives has Prem U/L and Diesel , limited basic store & grog shop. Access pass/gate key to Lake Gairdner. Gawler Ranges National Park access is best to prepay online . www.environment.sa.gov.au/parks/Find_a_Park/Browse_by_region/Eyre_Peninsula/gawler-ranges-national-park
Gawler Ranges National Park Permit is $6 per day per vehicle concession rates . If you book and buy a Multi Parks Pass this will include entry to Port Lincoln & Coffin Bay National Parks and is Valid for 2 months from the Date you nominate online, the Concession Rate for this Multi Parks Pass is $32 per vehicle not per person. Seniors Cards and other Gov cards are valid for this purchase. Thursday 5 : Gawler Ranges Mt Ives : Adventures : The majority of tracks within the Park are for high clearance vehicles so this should ensure some excitement and more should the weather become wet. Friday 6 : Gawler Ranges Mt Ives :Saturday 7 : Gawler Ranges Mt Ives : Sunday 8 :
Gawler Ranges Mt Ives : Monday 9 : to Saturday 14 : Port Lincoln 5nights to explore this exciting area. Coffin Bay & Lincoln Nat Parks. Mt ives to Port Lincoln: The most direct and shortest route is 312km via Buckleboo, Kimba, Cleve,Arno Bay, Port Neill, Tumby Bay, the other 2 options are 380km via Lock or 476km via Elliston . Port Lincoln Caravan Park : www.portlincolntouristpark.com.au/home This park is on the waterfront and seems to be cost effective over a good spread of options in the area.
Lucky Bay Ferry to Wallaroo will need to be booked well in advance as Saturday is the commencement of the SA School holidays 14-29 April www.seasa.com.au/
